Plastic crates will be embedded with edge computing, making them smart and self-aware assets next frontier. Picture crates that sense that a shock event has happened during forklift transit and send the condition info to maintained algorithms that predict whether pallet jack wheels need replacing. With low-power mesh networks, crates will be able to form an ad-hoc location grid to route an AMR through a never-static field of obstacles without depending on a fixed infrastructure.
